Our Ocean 2018 conference
The conference is held since 2014 in response to widespread deterioration of the marine environment.
In 2017 it was hosted by the EU in Malta and resulted in unprecedent level of ambition in funding pledges and protection of the world's marine protected areas. The EU's commitments exceeded €550 million, and together with its Member States and the European Investment Bank (EIB), the total EU pledge surpassed € 2.8 billion.
This year, the EU lends its full support to the host country. A new set of commitments will be prepared and Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, will participate.
